Pre-anaesthetic blood testing is an essential part of evaluating your pet’s health before surgery, especially for pets over seven years old.

We recommend a Complete Blood Count (CBC) and Biochemistry panel, including a thyroid function test for cats over seven. If there are signs of kidney disease, a urine test may also be necessary.

If your pet is scheduled for surgery or a dental procedure, please withhold food after 10:00 pm the night before. Do not feed your pet breakfast on the morning of surgery.

For pets with diabetes or kidney problem, please contact the clinic for specific fasting instructions. Continue any regular medications unless advised otherwise. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call us.

Surgery and dental cases are admitted between 8:00am and 9:00am. Please ensure we have your correct contact number so we can provide updates during or after surgery. When we call, we’ll arrange an afternoon or evening appointment to discuss your pet’s condition and go over discharge instructions.

During recovery, all vital signs are closely monitored, and pain medication is administered for a smooth recovery. For routine procedures, our nurses will discharge patients after 4:00pm.

Upon admission, a general anaesthetic consent and procedure form must be signed.

Modern anaesthesia poses minimal risk, but to help prevent complications, we strongly recommend pre-anaesthetic lab work. This can be completed on the morning of your pet’s surgery using our in-house Idexx Blood Analyser.

Each patient undergoes a thorough examination before anaesthesia. During the procedure, we monitor vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, respiration, and temperature. Core body temperature is maintained with warm water beds and intravenous fluids.

A qualified veterinary nurse, alongside the veterinarian, will stay with your pet from the moment they are induced to anaesthesia until they are fully recovered.

For surgical cases, the preferred pick-up time is between 3:00pm and 6:00pm.

For major surgical or dental cases, please arrange a pick-up time when a veterinarian is available to speak with you and provide post-surgery care instructions.
